Last Stop - Santiago, Chile.

Santiago (1 of 1)

These past few months have blown by, from numerous overnight flights, meeting countless inspirational people to seeing sites from Europe, Africa and South America, I've managed to fill an entire moleskin with adventurous stories (and 2 hard drives of images).  Though my CIEE travels are coming to an end, I'll have my memories from this experience forever. Thank you for following my blog thus far, stay tuned for a few more posts :)

Meet Dillion.

Dillion and his host family in Vina del Mar, Chile! They drove me around and showed me all the sites and later, welcomed me into their home for 'Once' - the Chilean word for a small dinner. Thanks again!

Teaching English in Valparaiso, Chile

School (1 of 7)

The Gap-Year abroad program in Valparaiso, Chile gives the students an awesome opportunity to teach English as a party of their internship / community service requirement. I went with Megan on her first day, the students were so excited to meet her and to begin their English studies!

Cristo Rey

At the Cristo Rey statue on the summit of Cerro de Cuilete, said to be the exact center of Mexico. People from all over bike for hundreds of miles to visit the statue on a religious camino. One of the world's largest Jesus statues!

Universidad de Guanajuato

Citytour (6 of 7)

The CIEE Summer and Fall semester study abroad students posing near the University! The CIEE Guanajuato, Mexico program is unique because there are many areas available for study, including a fine arts program through the University of Guanajuato. The CIEE students are mixed in classes with native Spanish speakers and can make their schedule fit to their personal studies, a very independent program for students looking to get involved in the community! The homestays are a great way for the students to immerse themselves into local culture and language learning!

On our way up the mountain to visit the exact center of Mexico, we stopped for lunch and enjoyed a home cooked meal on the side of the road. The best Mexican food yet!

Mi vuelo a Guanajuato

Photo on 2011-08-06 at 18.37

On my flight to Guanajuato, Mexico, I ended up sitting next to a guy from Chicago named Jack! By chance, he did the CIEE program in Guanajuato a year prior, he was on his way to visit old friends. We shared a cab into the city and became instant best friends for the week! He told me all about his experience studying abroad and introduced me to his friends! After he graduates he hopes to move back to Guanajuato because the CIEE program introduced him to a country he just can't get enough of!

Here's the moth I accidentally snuck onto the plane from Costa Rica!

Shay Spaniola

I am a painter, collage artist, and travel photographer. I've always been interested in learning about far lands and different cultures, I vividly remember flipping through my Grandmother's coffee table book that featured photos of children around the world - sparking my interest to explore and embrace adventure. I read travel magazines religiously and love seeing the world through my camera.

Born and raised in Detroit, I studied at the University of Michigan, spending my free time photographing for the Michigan Daily Newspaper and traveling to East Africa during the summers to document public health issues. I spent the academic year living in Malaga, Spain on the CIEE Teach Abroad program where I enjoyed jamon, beautiful beaches, and the laid back Spanish culture. With this summer internship, CIEE is opening a world of dreams, the beginning to an unforgettable journey!
